The Hawassa Children Organization (HCO), a long-standing non-profit dedicated to supporting vulnerable children and youth, celebrated a major milestone this week with the graduation of 30 young individuals from its vocational and educational support programs.

The graduation ceremony, held at the organization’s community center in the heart of Hawassa, marked the successful completion of training and development programs aimed at empowering marginalized youth with practical skills, education, and the confidence needed to transition into independent adulthood.

Among the graduates were young people who have grown up in difficult circumstances, including those orphaned or living in extreme poverty. Through HCO’s targeted support, these youth received comprehensive training in areas such as tailoring, carpentry, metalwork, IT, and hospitality. Others were supported in completing high school and advancing to higher education institutions.

“We are incredibly proud of what these young people have achieved,” said HCO Director Mekdes Tadesse during the ceremony. “They have overcome significant obstacles with resilience and determination. Today is a celebration not just of their accomplishments, but of the bright futures ahead of them.”

The event was attended by local government officials, community members, and representatives from partnering organizations and donors. Speeches, cultural performances, and the presentation of certificates highlighted the joyous occasion.

Graduates expressed gratitude to the organization for its life-changing support. “Without HCO, I wouldn’t be here today,” said 20-year-old graduate Biruk Alemayehu, who completed the organization’s IT training course. “Now, I have the skills to build a career and support my family.”

The Hawassa Children Organization has been active for over two decades, working to protect and empower vulnerable children through education, shelter, healthcare, and psychosocial support. The graduation of these 30 youths is a testament to the organization’s enduring impact in the region.

As the graduates step into the next phase of their lives, HCO plans to continue tracking their progress, offering mentorship and job placement support to ensure long-term success.
